What is Sligo County Community Forum?The Sligo County Community Forum was established in 2000 as a voice for the community and voluntary sector in County Sligo.  With a registered membership of over 660 groups, the Forum acts as a network to enable the Community & Voluntary sector to meet and address common issues and concerns of the sector and bring forward those views at a county level.

 

“The Mission Statement of the Community Forum is to identify analyse and act on the needs, issues and concerns of Community and Voluntary Groups in County Sligo with particular emphasis on the issues that affect those who are most vulnerable and excluded in our Communities.”

 

Members are elected to the county community forum through five area fora in County Sligo.  Currently there are 20 places representing the following geographical interests :

Dromore West electoral area             4 representatives

Tubbercurry electoral area -                 4 representatives

Ballymote electoral area -                    4 representatives

Sligo/Strandhill electoral area -           4 representatives

Sligo/Drumcliffe electoral area             4 representatives

 

… and five representatives covering the following sectoral interests:

Older people                           -           1 representative

People with disabilities              -           1 representative

Young people                           -           1 representative

Traveller Community                 -           1 representative

New Communities                      -           1 representative

 

The County Community Forum meets every month.  It holds its meetings in different areas around the county.  The forum members hold seats on a wide range of boards and local government structures  to advocate for the views of the community and voluntary sector.
